Bicycling and mountain biking on the Blue Ridge Parkway and in southwest Virginia is a poplar activity. Fancy Gap Cabins and Campground is a frequent stop over for cyclists. For those who are looking for a more relaxing ride, Fancy Gap Cabins and Campground is about a half hour from the New River. The New River Trail State Park is a 58-mile trail that parallels 39 miles of the river. The trail is mostly flat and well maintained, making it an optimal location for bicycling and hiking.
For mountain bikers, Westwood Park in nearby Mt. Airy has a designated mountain bike trail. Other mountain bike trails in the region are Matthews State Forest, Woolwine MTB and the Virginia Creeper Trail.
