Do you sell firewood and ice in your store?

We sell bundles of firewood, bags of ice, snacks, gifts and souvenirs in our Lil’ Camp Store. We also have games and books you can borrow.

Our firewood is USDA approved firewood. One bundle burns for an hour to an hour and a half. Please note that the Commonwealth of Virginia does not allow the transport of firewood from other counties or states.

When are you open?

No joke, Fancy Gap Cabins and Campground opens each year on April 1 and stays open through the first weekend of November. We take reservations year round either by phone at 276-730-7154 or online at fancygapcabinsandcampground.com.

We do have limited camping opportunities in the winter. Please visit our winter camping page for details.

What accommodations does your campground offer?

We really do have something for everyone. We have 13 full hook up RV sites, three tent sites with water and electric, six one-room cabins and an eight-room motel. The campground also has a bath house with five, full private bathrooms. We are happy to work with your club or family to book  a group reservation.

What is there to do?

Fancy Gap Cabins and Campground is centrally located along the Blue Ridge Parkway and within southwest Virginia. That means our guests can hike, bike, paddle, shop, enjoy museums, attend festivals and dine at any number of local restaurants. For more details, visit the Things to Do section of our website.

Do you have Wi-Fi?

Yes we have free Wi-Fi on the campground and at the motel. The Wi-Fi is good for checking email and social media, but is not strong enough for streaming. We do ask that no illegal or inappropriate content is accessed. We do reserve the right to pull the plug on the Wi-Fi if it is abused.

What is the occupancy of a motel or cabin and what is in them?

The motel rooms and cabins comfortably sleep two, but most can accommodate three or four.

Motel room 1 is the only room with an occupancy of 2 having only a queen bed and a recliner. Room 2 has a queen bed and a futon that folds down to a twin size bed. Rooms 3,4,6, and 7 have a queen bed and a futon that folds out to a full-size bed. Room 5 has a queen bed and a queen size sleeper sofa.

Four of our six cabins (1,2,5 and 6) have queen beds and futons that fold down to a full size bed. Cabins 3 and 4 have queen beds and bunk beds.

Guests can bring linens for the futons or queen sleeper sofa or rent sets for $6.

All the motel rooms and cabins have mini-fridges, a microwave and a coffeemaker with regular and decaf coffee, creamer, sugar and cups. There is also a choice of hot chocolate and hot tea. The motel and cabins have picnic tables, fire rings and charcoal grills. Water hydrants are at the cabins as well.

Motel rooms also include televisions, heat, air conditioning and a full bathroom with towels, soap, shampoo and conditioner.

The cabins do not include a bathroom or towels. Guest should bring towels and plan to use our bath house. Our bath house has five, full, separate bathrooms and is a short walk from the cabins. Cabins are cooled by a 10-inch box fan,  a ceiling fan and opening the windows. They are heated by floor heaters when the weather is chilly.

You can bring linens for the futons or bunk beds or rent sets for $6. Towels are also available to rent for $6 for a set or $3 for a bath towel.

Are you pet friendly?

We are pet friendly. There is a pet fee of $15 per pet, per night for the motel rooms and cabins. No matter how cute, small, large, cuddly or well-behaved your pets may be, the fee applies to each one, each night. Pet fees do not apply to RV or tent campers.

All pet owners are expected to keep their animals on leash and under control at all times. Owners must clean up after their pets. We ask that you  d0 not leave your pet unattended. The owners of pets who disturb other guests may be asked to leave without a refund.

What is your cancellation policy?

If you cancel your reservation 72 hours or more before the morning of your arrival, your deposit will be refunded minus a processing fee of 10 percent of your total reservation. The minimum processing fee is $5.

If you cancel within 72 hours, you will loose your deposit and all other monies paid.

Refunds are not issued for people who leave early for any reason.

There are no refunds given for the cancellation of reservations made the same day of your arrival.

No shows will be charged the entirety of their balance due.

When availability allows, we are happy to reschedule within the same camping season and apply a guest’s deposit toward the new reservation. Please call 276-730-7154 us if you need to make a change to your reservation.

Do you have laundry facilities for guests?

We do have a laundry center for guests to use with three washing machines and dryers. Wash and dry is $8.00 per load. Wash or dry is $4.00 each. Detergent, bleach and stain remover is available for guests to use. The machines are not coin operated. You pay in the office. Because the machines are also used for campground laundry, guests need to  coordinate access with the owners.

Do you sell propane?

Yes, we have a propane fill station on site that operates year round. We’re glad to help our RV guests and folks travelling through the area top off their tanks. We also welcome our neighbors who need need tanks filled. During our off season from November through March, please call 276-730-7154 before dropping by.

Guests arriving after our store/office is closed will find all the information they need in the information box to the left of our office door. Store/Office hours are Sunday through Thursday 9 am to 6 pm and Thursdays and Fridays until 7 pm.

How do I get to your campground?

Remember that GPS isn’t always reliable in our area so keep these directions handy while you’re travelling. If you do use GPS, do not let it take you off the Blue Ridge Parkway, down exit 1 off I-77 or down Bavarian Way. You will not enjoy a ride down some of the back roads around the campground, especially if you are pulling an RV.

We are the only private, full service campground directly on the Blue Ridge Parkway. If the parkway closes for any reason, we will send alternate directions. Otherwise, here’s the best way to get to Fancy Gap Cabins and Campground:

  • Follow our highway signs to take I-77, exit 8. Follow the signs to Fancy Gap, the Blue Ridge Parkway and Highway 52.
  • At the stop sign with the blinking light, turn right going south on Highway 52 for a half mile.
  • Just past the Amoco Station and the Lakeview Restaurant, you’ll see the brown sign for the Parkway. Turn right.
  • Go up the ramp to the stop sign, and turn right to go south on the Blue Ridge Parkway.
  • Stay on the Blue Ridge Parkway for 3.5 miles. You’ll see the campground on your left.
  • Right past the sign for the Fancy Gap Ranger’s office, turn left onto the gravel drive.
  • Stay left on the driveway to enter the campground.
  • Please stop and check in at the office.

You can also reach us by coming up Highway 52 N out of Winston-Salem. Catch the parkway in Fancy Gap, and again go south, travelling 3.5 miles until you see the campground on the left.

What about smoking and drinking?

We do not allow smoking or vaping of any substance (including marijuana) inside campground buildings. Those who violate our policy and smoke or vape inside any of our buildings will be fined $500. No exceptions.

We ask smokers and vapers to refrain from throwing butts and other garbage on the ground. There are numerous receptacles and garbage cans provided throughout the campground.

Drinking is allowed as long as guests are the legal age and do not disturb others. Guests who drink to excess, are underage and/or disturb others may be asked to leave the campground without a refund.

What happens if a guest damages something while visiting?

Campers and motel guests are responsible for repaying the campground/motel owners for the cost of repairs or replacements when they damage property like water hydrants, electric pedestals and boxes, walls, grass, bathroom fixtures, bedding, linens and towels.

Do you offer Long-term RV Stays?

Long-term or seasonal contracts are not available at Fancy Gap Cabins and Campground. Three weeks is the maximum stay we allow. We do have a weekly rate. When you book a week, you get a night free, paying for six instead of seven nights.

If you are looking for a park with an option for a long term RV stay, please check the interactive map on the Blue Ridge Parkway Association’s website. The interactive map allows you to use filters to search for other campgrounds and types of lodging. It will also show you where they are in proximity to the Blue Ridge Parkway.

Please call us at 276-730-7154 or email us at fancygapcc@gmail.com if you have questions regarding rates or length of stay.

What about parking?

Every reservation includes parking for 2 vehicles. To park more than 2 vehicles, there is a $5 fee per vehicle. We are a small campground, and we need our guests to think about how many vehicles they bring when they stay with us. We do have some extra parking, but please carpool when you can.

This does not include trailers. If you are towing a trailer, please let us know ahead of time. We do have alternate spaces for trailers since many times they do not fit in designated parking areas. Just give us a call at 276-730-7154 or email fancygapcc@gmail.com to make arrangements.

Is your campground and motel seasonal or year round?

We are primarily a seasonal campground. Our season runs from April 1 through the first weekend in November.

We do offer some winter camping for fully contained RVs during the winter. In late February, we open up our cabins and tent sites for winter camping opportunities. Check out our winter camping page for details.

What are backflow preventers?

The state of Virginia requires that all the outside water hydrants that our RV, cabin and tent guests use have backflow preventers attached. You’ll see them on the end of each hydrant on the campground. They are not pressure regulators. They prevent anything from entering our water system via the hydrants.

RV guests, make sure that you do not take the backflow preventer with you when you disconnect your water hose. There is a $20 fee for missing backflow preventers. When we find a backflow preventer is missing, we will call you first to see if you have it. Many guests return the backflow preventers by mail to avoid the charge. Others accept the charge.

If you arrive at your site or cabin and there is not a backflow preventer on a hydrant, please call us at 276-730-7154 and let us know.

Is there a fee if I loose my key?

If you loose the key to your cabin or motel room, there is a $25 fee. Likewise, if you leave with the key at the end of your stay, there is a $25 fee. For those who leave with keys, you can mail it back to us to avoid the charge. If you find your key and return it to us, we will refund the lost key fee. Don’t worry. We do have extra keys if you loose one during your stay.

When is your office and store open?

Our combination office and store is open Sunday through Thursday 9 am to 6 pm and Friday and Saturday until 7 pm.

We ask that all guests and visitors check in at the office. Late arrivals, please stop at the office and pick up the envelope with your name on it that contains the information you’ll need for your stay.

When do I pay for my reservation and what cards do you accept?

A one night deposit is required to complete your reservation. The balance is due when you check in. Please let us know if there are any changes to your reservation or discounts to add before we run your balance.

Late arrivals, we do run balances due using the card on file each morning when we open the office. If you want to use a different card than the one we have on file or are planning to pay in cash, please call us at 276-730-7154 or email us at fancygapcc@gmail.com ahead of time.

We accept Visa, MasterCard and Discover.

Do you provide linens and towels?

Queen beds in the motel rooms and camping cabins have a full set of bedding. Linens for extra beds (futons, sofa bed, bunk beds) are $6 per set. Please feel free to bring your own.

Motel rooms include two sets of towels and replacement towels as requested. Camping cabins do not include towels. You can rent a set for $6 or a bath towel for $3.

Pease let us know if you need extra linens or towels, before you arrive or at check in.

How many RV sites do you have and are they full hook up?

At Fancy Gap Cabins and Campground, we have 13 full hook up RV sites. That means they have water, electric and sewer. We do have Wi-Fi as well. Four of our sites are along the top of a hill. They are swing-in and swing-out style. We consider these our pull through sites. Our lower section has nine back-in sites. Three of the back in sites have decks. Each site has a fire ring and picnic table. The sites are close to our bathhouse, apple orchard and walking trails. Check out the RV camping page for rates and detailed descriptions of our sites.

Can I drive my RV on Hwy 52 and the Blue Ridge Parkway?

Hwy 52, which brings you to the entrance of the Blue Ridge Parkway, has a weight limit for commercial vehicles. The limit does not apply to RVs. Our section of the Blue Ridge Parkway has rolling hills without steep grades or tunnels. RVs have no problems traveling south 3.5 miles on the parkway from Fancy Gap to reach our campground and motel.

Do you have a bath house?

We have a bathhouse that is centered on the campground between the RVs, tents and camping cabins. The bath house has five private bathrooms that lock and include a shower, toilet and sink. There is also a utility sink at the bath house to wash dishes.

Do you have quiet hours?

Our quiet hours is from 10 pm to 8 am across the campground and motel. We appreciate guests respecting quiet hours.

How late can I check in?

We don’t have a limit on check in time. Guests arriving during store/office hours (Sunday through Thursday 9 am to 6 pm and Friday and Saturday until 7 pm), please stop at the stop signs, park and come in. We’ll be there to greet you and give you the information you need to get your visit started on the right foot.

Late arrivals will find an enveloped with their name on it that includes a car tag, site map and campground brochure and keys if staying at the motel or a cabin. Envelopes will be in the information box to the left of the office door. Late arrivals need to be aware that quiet hours are from 10 pm to 8 am. The campground is also dark at night.

The owners live on site. You can call the main number, 276-730-7154, for assistance. Calls after 9 pm go to voicemail so please leave a message.

How many tent sites do you have? What do they include?

We have three large tent sites. They include electric, water and Wi-Fi. They are also near our bath house that has five, private bathrooms with showers and utility sinks for washing dishes. They are close to our walking trails and pond.

Tent 14 is our only drive in site. Sites 15/16 and 17/18 where once four separate sites. Now that they are combined, they are large enough for a large tent or four small tents. These sites are located along our tent road. That means you park on the road and take a few steps down into your site. We do not allow vehicles in these sites to prevent erosion of the bank and protect the underground infrastructure. We’ve also had vehicles get stuck in these sites or hit water hydrants as they try to drive out. So please park on the tent road.

Are there bears or other wildlife on your campground?

This is a question we get most often from people staying in our tent sites. It is wise to keep your food and other gear secure. Black bears do reside in our area. Deer are the most common wildlife you’ll see on the campground as well as birds and butterflies.

Is your water potable?

All the water on the campground is potable, except the pond water. Please do not drink it. The water at the bath house, water hydrants and motel is safe to drink and use to cook your favorite camping meals.
